Information about Eligible Lender Trustee (ELT)
The Higher Education Act limits lender participation in the Federal Family Educational Loan Program (FFELP) to "eligible lenders." Because Access Group is not an "eligible lender" under the Higher Education Act, legal title to certain FFELP loans made under the Access Group loan programs is held by an "eligible lender trustee" in trust for Access Group. The use of ELT's is relatively common in the student loan industry.
